In general, an in-line block heater heats the coolant fluid and circulates this fluid through the heater core, discharging into the block. (it has nothing to do with the large diameter radiator hose and thermostat assembly).... So the in-line heater needs to be installed on the return line from the heater core to the block ... I suppose it might work if installed on the other line .... either way, it will be important to keep your circulating line from the block to the heater core and back to the block fully open... when I had one of these on my 70s GM truck I just made sure that the mechanically controlled temperature lever was adjusted to the warmest setting with the valve wide open..... to be honest I don't know how this would work on my newer truck now when all of the controls are electronically controlled.....

Where is the block heater in a 2001 jetta?

In a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, the block heater is typically located near the engine block, often on the driver's side. It is a small, cylindrical unit that plugs into an electrical outlet to help warm the engine coolant. Where is block heater located in 2001 Saturn 3-DOOR SC?

IF there is a block heater (Only some models had block heaters) you will see the electrical plug wound up somewhere under the hood. Follow that wire back to where the block heater goes into the block. If your Saturn doesn't have a block heater, and you want one, there are several options. You can purchase a block heater that replaces the engine freeze plug. That requires installation by a qualified mechanic since the old freeze plug must be removed to use that style block heater. You can purchase an engine heater that fits inline with the coolant system. That just requires cutting a hose and splicing in the engine heater. You can purchase an engine heater that sticks magnetically to the engine while in use. Be careful with that model since you should remove it if it's hanging down from the bottom; it could become a hazard when you're driving.

How do you change a block heater on a 1981 GM truck?

Locate the block heater. Drain out the coolant from the rad and from the block if there is a drain there. There should be a screw in the center of the block heater. Unscrew it to loosen the block heater internal clamp. Use a pair of pliers and wiggle it free. As long as it is not plugged in, there should be no worry of damage. It is sealed with an o-ring.The element will have to be worked out as it goes into the block along the side.
