Practice is definitely an essential skill to master whilst learning Chinese. Practice speaking, listening and reading Chinese everyday. Go on YouTube and watch some Chinese shows, listen to some Chinese music, etc. Read through your textbook making sure you understand everything and defintely listen carefully to how to teacher speaks. Tones are a very difficult part of Chinese to learn so it is important to learn from someone with really good pronounciation that you can immitate! Good luck!
