My '87 Prelude has a mechanical cable that spins from the rotation of the transmission. The speedometer cable enters the transmission vertically on the passenger's side of the engine compartment. The cable spins from a gear arrangement built into the transmission. The cable rises up from the transmission and bends to a level position as it crosses over the top of the engine. The cable bends again towards the firewall as the cable comes over the engine to the driver's side of the engine compartment. The cable goes through the firewall and into the back of the speedometer. I just replaced mine and it was a pretty easy job except for the clip that needs to be removed at the tranny end of the cable. Wrap a rag around the cable so that if you lose the clip, it doesn't fall into the transmission. Also, the clip is covered by a boot that protects the cable/tranny end from contamination. Pull the boot up and you can get to the clip. When putting the clip back on, put the clip in the boot BEFORE lowering the cable end into the tranny. You then put the clip on by feeling the clip "click" into the groove as the cable goes in. I spent hours trying to put the clip on and then trying to pull the little boot over the clip. The clip kept coming out and the boot wouldn't stretch over the clip's ends. Good Luck.
There isn't a speedometer cable. There is a speedometer sensor, where it is located I am still trying to find out. On the tranny or in the speedometer or somewhere else?
On a Prelude 91 Si, you can find the MAP sensor by looking at the black box which is mounted on the passenger side firewall. You should see vacuum lines that run to it.
The speedometer is driven by the vehicle speed sensor. See "Related Questions" below for more about where to find it, and how to replace one.
I am having the same problem. I know for sure there is one on the transmission but according to my mechanic there is another in the instrument cluster at the speedometer. Can seem to find any info on the speedometer sensor.
the SI is not carborated it is fuel injected.
The VSS sensor on the '87 Buick Grand National is connected to the speedometer. You have the remove the dash to gain access to it. There you will find the three wire connection into the rear panel. The little green box is attached to the fire wall, the female end connects to the speedometer. You have to disconnect the speedometer cable under the hood for slack when pulling out. Remove dash trim, and lower steering column. This will make it easy to remove the speedometer. The speedometer is plug and play. Just pull it straight forward it will come out after you remove the screws. There you will find the connection of the VSS sensor follow the three connection down to the module "Green Box". Once you locate the VSS sensor there you will find it's connected by two separate plugins. One black and one white. Very easy to attach. Reverse process to complete installation.
i can't find the iat sensor for my 1987 nissan 300zx non turbo
it is inside the distributor.
Go to your local LORDCO auto or a PICK & PULL.
The cam sensor on a 1987 Bonneville is just below the water pump, it has a gray electrical connector.
There is no speedometer cable on a 1995 caravan. it is done by a speed sensor on the transmission and digtal data is sent to the computer and the computer then sends the signal to the speedometer. This is the case even when the speedometer looks analog. Likely a bad speedometer is the cause if it does not move as the speed sensor is used for other functions and would trip the "check engine" light if it was bad. the speedometer is part of the instrument cluster and likely you would need to change the whole thing.
i would check speedometer sensor. . take car to autozone they hook up code read out for free.. speedo sensor found on tranny. and its over $100.00 dollars for part only.. easy to change if handy w/ tools and if you can find it
