It is on the side of the throttle body opposite the throttle cable.
The throttle position sensor is on the throttle body.
According to my factory service manual the voltage at the throttle position sensor should vary from about 0.5 volts in the idle position to 5.0 volts in the wide open throttle position.
The idle speed is read by the Engine Control Module(computer) and adjusted as necessary by use of the idle air control in conjunction with the throttle position sensor. There is no separate idle sensor as such.

The MAP sensor on a 1987 Chevy Celebrity is mounted to the firewall near the right fender.
It is on the air intake housing straight across from where the accelerator cable hooks up.
Possibly the throttle position sensor has failed.
It is in the throttle body.
Its on the throttle body, back side (firewall side). Its on the passenger side of the car, where the plastic intake from the air filter hooks on to the aluminum part. Mine has a gold finish, and is a small round 'can' shape. Here is the fun part, it is riveted on to the throttle body, and is not intended for 'backyard' replacement. I haven't been able to find one for sale (haven't checked with the dealer yet), the aftermarket parts stores tell me I need to buy the entire throttle body, not just the sensor. Its also been referred to as a throttle angle sensor. When I had my 87 Honda in for service for a different problem, they said my PGM-FI light was on because of a bad throttle position sensor. I am still driving it howerver. I notice it stumbles a little on acceleration, perhaps this is why, I don't know. I found a used throttle body on the internet for $154. I don't know yet if that includes the throttle position sensor or not.

The crankshaft position sensor on a 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity is on the side of the engine nearest the firewall. I need to know which engine to give a more specific answer.
On a 1987 to 1990 Celebrity with 2.8/3.1L engine the crankshaft position sensor is on the side of the block beneath the exhaust manifold on the firewall side of the engine.
The knock sensor is on the left side of the block below the exhaust manifold.

The knock sensor on a Chevy Celebrity 2.8 L engine from 1987 thru 1990 is located on the back side of the engine(next to the firewall) below the exhaust manifold. There are actually two sensors there, one is the knock sensor, the other is the crankshaft position sensor. The knock sensor is threaded into the block with a pipe thread, the crankshaft position sensor is held in with a 10 mm screw and is near the center of the block. They are both accessible with the engine in the car, but they are a bit of a pain to get to.l
Late 1987 to 1995 were all TBI / throttle body injection

no chevelle was ever made in 87.
I had a similar experience with my 1987 Chevy Celebrity. In my car's case I replaced the ignition module and the crankshaft position sensor. Between the two the problem seems to be fixed.
No it does not have a crankshaft sensor, the engine control module uses the distributor for crankshaft position.
