A well-designed electronic device typically has two levels of fuses, one on the primary and one on the secondary side of the power supply. The primary side fused protects the mains wiring and infrastructure from damage caused by a faulty power supply, the secondary side fuse protects the power supply from damage caused by faulty hardware on the secondary (low voltage) side.

The fuse on a desktop computer is usually located inside its Power Supply Unit (PSU). Other times, it is located on the mains plug that delivers power to the PSU.
