There is no exact science on where to put the patches on the Pathfinder sash. Most people put camporee patches on the back and honors on the front. If you are just starting out, try organizing your honors by color and skip spaces to fill in later. It helps the sash look less empty for now and gives you room to expand.

Some Pathfinders like to put their old class rank strips on their sashes once they have completed a new level and have to remove it from over the pocket. Those can go anywhere but I often see them at the top front of the sash. If you have earned any of the Master Award Honors, those are also nice when placed at the top front.

The only real rule to keep in mind is that some conferences expect you to wear a name tag over your pocket or in that location on the sash when the pocket will be covered. If that rule is followed in your conference, just be sure to leave a gap there for the name tag.

The main purpose of the sash is to display merit badges. These are attached in rows of three in no particular order. Many just attach them in the order they were earned. Some attach the required badges for Eagle down one border - usually the right. If additional space is needed merit badges may also be attached to the back of the sash. Venture and Varsity scouts may attach a venture/ Varsity letter in the lower front corner. Temporary patches may also be attached to the back of the sash. A sash pin may be worn to keep the sash in place.

According to information about the Girl Guides of Canada sash, there should be suggestions for insignia placement in the girl's program book. Only program badges are to be worn on the sash. The Unit Title Tape goes on the top, in front. Next, the Enrollment Pin. Then the Membership Pin. Then the Challenge Crest. And then the Keepers (the pink oval badges), in no particular order. The Girl Guides of Canada Facebook page also has photos of badge placement.

Most badges are sewn on, but some may be the iron on type. There are also products that are a type of glue that may be used to attach the badges. Regarding where to place the badges, it depends on which organization the Girl Guide belongs to. Where do you put badges on a Girl Scout's vest or sash?

For Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), the earned badges go on the front of the vest, underneath any other earned insignia. It is a good idea to start attaching the badges at the bottom of the vest. Any fun patches received go on the back of the vest. Other Girl Guide and Girl Scout organizations may have different guidelines for badge placement.
