He was a highly successful young lawyer until his brothers were captured by the British and became prisoners of war. Jackson became a war general and helped America win the Battle of New Orleans and the War of 1812. He stayed a war hero until his election to presidency in 1827.

Andrew Jackson became an orderly and messenger in the mounted militia of South Carolina when 13 years old during the American Revolution. When he was 14 he took up saddle making and school teaching. Jackson next studied law and became a lawyer when he was 20 years old, and he then practiced law for the next 9 years before entering politics and serving as a representative, a senator, a judge, and a Major General in the army before becoming President of the US.
