Rome, Italy, is the birthplace of Artemisia Gentileschi. The woman in question (July 8, 1593 - c. 1653) received an early introduction into the artistic career in which she excelled as the daughter of Pisa-born painter Orazio Gentileschi (July 9, 1563 - 1639). She was the first woman to be accepted by Florence's prestigious Accademia di Arte del Disegno (Academy of the Fine Arts) and one of the most prominent of the female Baroque painters.
