Christians believe that Jesus Christ is God. Our God is a triune God (One God in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit) Jesus as God was in heaven with the Father and the Holy Spirit until a time that was chosen for God the Son to become incarnate( born in the flesh). Israel had been in existence some two thousand years before Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem. He lived on earth for approximately 33 years while the Romans had control over Israel. Israel ceased being a nation in 70 A.D. In short Jesus was and is now in heaven during Israel's time except for His 33 years on earth.

The Old City was considered part of West Bank until 1980 when it was annexed by Isreal. The Biblical Jerusalem, for all practical purposes, was part of Isreal. This is where Jesus went.

Answer # 2

Christ Jesus did not go to Israel, he was of Israel. Israel was not a place it was the name of the family of Jacob after our Father renamed Jacob, Israel. There are 12 tribes of Israel. Christ was from the tribe of Levi as it is defined in the book of Luke. The land often referred to now days as Palestine was given to Abraham by our Father. The account is written in the the 17th chapter of the book of Genesis. The covenant was made between our Father and Abraham and then ordered to be passed on to Abrahams son Isaac. The covenant further passed to Jacob, then it passed to Joseph and then to Ephram, Josephs younger son. It remains the property of Ephram until this very day. The tribe of Judah lived in Jerusalem (the city of David).

The land when Christ walked this earth was known as Judea and Samaria. Because the land was split among the 12 tribes after Solomon was king (northern tribes =Samaria and the southern tribes = Judea). The books of the New Testament define the many trips and locations of Christ while he was in that land of Judea and Samaria, which at the time was under Roman rule. See reference and information on Galilee, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Jerusalem... etc. There are also maps which trace the biblical text and routes taken while he was in the land of Judea
