Jesus was at Jerusalem about two miles from Bethany where Lazarus lived.

Another answer:Jesus had recently been in Jerusalem for the Feast of Dedication (John 10:22, 23), but He departed from there after yet another ugly encounter with the Jews, who wanted to stone Him for blasphemy (John 10:31-33).

John 10:39, 40 - Therefore they sought again to seize Him, but He escaped out of their hand. And He went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was baptizing at first, and there He stayed.

Jesus and His disciples are at this locale when they receive word of Lazarus.

John 11:6 - So, when He [Jesus] heard that he [Lazarus] was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was.

Clearly, they are still in this place "beyond the Jordan," because Jesus then voices His intent to returnto Judea (the region of Bethany and Jerusalem), and the disciples are dismayed that He wants to go near Jerusalem again.

Verses 7, 8 - Then after this He said to the disciples, "Let us go to Judea again." The disciples said to Him, "Rabbi, lately the Jews sought to stone You, and are You going there again?"

How did Lazarus betray Jesus?

There is no record of Lazarus betraying Jesus in the Bible. In fact, Lazarus was a close friend of Jesus whom he raised from the dead. Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, is the one known for betraying Jesus by identifying him to the chief priests for thirty pieces of silver.

Who was lazarus and what happened to him?

He was the brother of Mary and Martha. He died, but then he got better. (He had some help... Mary, Martha, and Lazarus were friends of Jesus.) There is another unrelated Lazarus in a parable told by Jesus. He was a rich man. He also died, but he didn't get better. In fact, he spent eternity in torment.

What did Jesus do for lazarus?

Lazarus was raised from the dead by Jesus. He was a brother of Mary and Martha, living in Bethany. Found in John, chapter 11. Jesus spoke of another Lazarus, who was poor, sitting and begging at the gate of a rich man's home. This beggar died and went to "Abraham's bosom," a way of saying that he went to paradise. The rich man, who didn't care about the needs of the poor beggar, also died, but went to Hell, where he was in torments. Found in Luke 16:19-31.

Why did the angels carry Lazarus away in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus?

The story of Lazareth is a parable by Jesus, in Luke 16:19-31. When Jesus spoke of the angel carrying away Lazarus to the bosom of Abraham, this was intended allegorically, to mean that he died and went to heaven. In the parable, it was important that Lazarus be clearly understood as taken to heaven, to create a contrast to the fate of the rich man.
