Ares is the God of War for the Greeks where Mars is the same except for the Romans. The difference here is that Mars was more revered by the Romans, and Ares was more hated. Ares was the God of War, Murder, and Bloodshed. Mars was the God of War, Agriculture, and (I think) food. What I am trying to get at was that Mars is seen as a God of Life, while Ares is seen as a god of death. The Roman soldiers prayed to Mars to support them in battle and what not. Hope this helps!
In Greek mythology, Ares did not have a definitive death. As the god of war, he was seen as immortal and it was believed that he continued to exist despite not being as prominent in myths as other gods.
Some modern references to Ares can be seen in the Marvel Comics character Ares, the God of War, and the video game series God of War, where Ares is depicted as a main antagonist. Additionally, some political or military leaders are sometimes compared to Ares for their aggressive or warlike demeanor.
