He developed most of the techniques used by tree surgeons today which is why he is regarded as the father of tree science. Davey established that the main aim of a tree surgeon is to preserve trees and prevent them from decaying due to damage or disease. Tree surgery is also an extremely physically demanding profession due to the fact that tree surgeons need to be able to climb trees and handle a chainsaw to cut large branches among other things. Also, all tasks are performed regardless of weather conditions. In fact, weather conditions and seasons are what dictate which tasks need to be performed on most trees. For example, trees are tidied up and strengthened in the summer months while the winter months are for milling timber and getting rid of trees that were lost in the summer. As concern for the environment grows, so does the demand for tree surgeons. More and more people want to preserve and treat their damaged trees rather than just cutting them down all together. Tree surgery has been an essential industry for over 130 years and is continuing to thrive.
