Catholic AnswerNot sure about this one, it was either in Philadelphia or Maryland. Very early on, Catholics were tolerated in Maryland, so it is probably a good bet, but there was a very early Catholic Church established in Philadelphia as well. And the Spanish friars brought Catholicism to what is now Florida in the sixteenth century (read the Georgia Martyrs below). The parish of St. Augustine in Florida was founded on Sept. 8, 1565 after Pedro Menendez landed there. So it is the oldest Catholic congregation "of a permanent European Settlement" north of Mexico. The present Church building was completed in 1797 by the Spanish Crown after it reclaimed the city from the British who occupied it due to a prior treaty to replace a smaller structure. In 1887 it was destroyed by fire and was rebuilt in 1888. So the building isn't the oldest, just the congregation. See link below for more details.

St. Augustine, Florida was the first European(i.e. Spanish) settlement in what later became the US. I do not know you call it a Catholic settlement or even if they built a church, but Catholicism was the state religion of Spain at that time.

Baltimore, Maryland is where most Catholics from England lived- I think it was the first English settlement with a Catholic church.

The First Roman Catholic church was the Archdiocese of Baltimore in the 18th century. To this day the Archbishop of Baltimore is considered the primary see in the United States.

Saint Augustine Florida is the oldest European city in the United States. The city was founded by Pedro Menéndez de Avilés on September 8, 1565. Martin Francisco Lopez de Mendoza Grajales became first parish priest of St. Augustine, the first established parish in the United States. Its church records, dating from 1594, are preserved in the archives of the present cathedral.

St. Ignatius was founded in 1641 by Jesuits who arrived on the Ark and the Dove to assist in the forming of a new English Colony. St. Ignatius is located in Port Tobacco, Maryland on Chapel Point road. It remains the oldest continuously serving catholic church in the United States.
