During the Roman siege of Jerusalem in 70CE, all the olive trees were cut down, so the exact location of Gethsemane cannot be determined, but it was most likely located East of Jerusalem, across the Kidron Valley, on or by the Mount of Olives. (John 18:1), (Luke 22:39) Jesus often met with his disciples here, such as on Passover night when betrayed by Judas and arrested. (John 18:2, Matthew 26:36-56; Mark 14:32-52; Luke 22:39-53; John 18:1-12.)
