Is the corsair better than the hellcat?

It's a better "fighter-bomber", that's why it was still in production into the 1950's and for the Korean War (1950-1953). Can carry more ordnance, probably further. The Corsair was like the Mustang...men liked 'em, and many became racers at the Reno air races in Nevada when the military sold them in the 1950's & '60s. The F6F Hellcat was a completely different animal. The Hellcat was born and bred to kill the Japanese A6M Zero. The Grumman manufacturing company acquired a fully intact Japanese Zero from the Aleution Islands in 1942 (the pilot had crashed landed and died; the craft was discovered up-side down on a rough airfield). The 'Zeke" (Zero) was disassembled and transported to San Diego California where it was STUDIED; REASSEMBLED; then TEST FLOWN by US pilots. The A6M's weak spots and strong points were analyzed, digested, and then from there the "Zero Killer" was designed. The F6F had the highest kill rate against the Zeke than any other allied fighter during the war. With the war ending, and the Zeke's shot from the skies, the Hellcat had no purpose to live anymore; it's reason to exist was gone. So it died too. Most were shot down as target drones; some turned into missiles; and many were tossed overboard from their carriers on their return trips home (operation magic carpet, to make room for men coming home).

Who will win f6f hellcat or a6m zero?

The A6M had the longest range (nearly 2,000 miles), so the Hellcat could run out of gas and crash into the sea if the pilot is inexperienced. That aside, Grumman designed the F6F specifically to kill the A6M Zero. The Hellcat had 6 fiftys and was built like a tank! It had the horse power and speed of an assassin. The Hellcat would kill the A6M, unless the Zero had a good pilot (like Sakai).

Information on hellcat airplane?

The F6F Hellcat is one of the most unique fighter planes of WWII. It was the only fighter SPECIFICALLY designed & built, to hunt down and kill the A6M Zero fighter. In that arena, it was successful; with the highest kill rate of any allied fighter. In 1942, a fully intact A6M Zero was discovered in Alaska upside down, with it's dead pilot still in the cockpit. The machine was disassembled and transported to San Diego California. The Grumman Aircraft Company studied the machine, analyzed it, found it's strong points and it's weak spots, reassembled it, and had it test flown by US pilots over California (WITH US MARKINGS ON IT). From that intelligence, the Zero Killer was born; the F6F Hellcat.

What was the name of the main fighter plane of america in ww2?

Due to the fact that the United States produced tens of thousands of each fighter type during the Second World War, it is unfair to call any one model the 'main fighter plane,' as all models made great contributions to the Allied victory over Germany and Japan in the air.
