The chainsaw as we know it today was invented by two doctors in Scotland in the late 1890's as a medical tool for cutting bone. The first gas powered chainsaw was perfected by Emil Lerp in 1927, this was known as the Dolmar. - Andreas Stihl developed his chain saw in Germany in 1929.
