They reconnected while Gump was in New York City after the war and again when Gump was shrimping on the Bayou. Lt. Dan was to become a constant in Gump's life as shown in Lt. Dan's handling of BubbaGump Shrimp money and later at Forrest's and Jenny's wedding. Although Forrest had few friends during his lifetime, the one's he had were very loyal and actually considered themselves lucky to be accepted by Gump. We all need a Gump in our lives.
