The character Lt. Dan first appeared in Forrest's life while he did his stint in the US Army during the Vien Nam war. They reconnected while Gump was in New York City after the war and again when Gump was shrimping on the Bayou. Lt. Dan was to become a constant in Gump's life as shown in Lt. Dan's handling of BubbaGump Shrimp money and later at Forrest's and Jenny's wedding. Although Forrest had few friends during his lifetime, the one's he had were very loyal and actually considered themselves lucky to be accepted by Gump. We all need a Gump in our lives. But I don't think the movie ever specified where Dan Taylor was from.

He was nominated for 1995's Academy Award for 'Best Actor in a Supporting Role' for his performance in "Forrest Gump" but lost to Martin Landau for his role in "Ed Wood". Sinise has since appeared alongside Tom Hanks in "Apollo 13" and "The Green Mile". He is currently starring in the TV Drama "CSI:NY"

He is very respected, not only as an actor, but as a very good man. He has visited our troops in Iraq often, and has promoted the notion of just doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right reasons. In other words, he's a good man.
