There was actually never a ranch or property with that name. For a time, Manson and his band of miscreants lived on an old movie set called Spauhn's Movie Ranch. The owner, George Spauhn, at the time in his eighties, let the 'family' live on the ranch in exchange for work. It is always a little surprising that Mr. Spauhn did not become a victim himself. The fact that he was almost totally blind may have saved his life. The actual location is 12000 Santa Susana Pass Rd., in the hills above Chatsworth, California.
After the Hindman, Tate and LaBianca murders in Los Angeles, Charles thought it would be safer to move the family further from the crimes. They ended up in Inyo County, at a place called Barker Ranch, which is located east of L.A., inside Death Valley National Park.
