This question is interesting. The role of De Gaulle is not known while he was still Colonel at the beginning of the Battle of France.
De gaulle was untrusted the leading of the 4th DCR (division cuirassée de réserve) created the 11th of may 1940. This division was composed mostly of 400 armoured tanks.
It was based in Laon.
When the German Army broke through the Ardennes (Sedan), this division was not ready and prepared for fighting.
It entered the war the 17th of may and engaged a successful counterattack near Laon and Moncorvet attempting a flanking attack of the German army in Abbeville to free the allies surrounded in Dunkerque.
This division, in spite of the lack of reinforcement, was able to fight efficiently during more than 40 days constantly.
The action of Colonel De Gaulle, during the Battle of France, as a leader able to make up an organise an army while fighting, brought him the title of General.
