People who were trained as nurses would come on the battlefield and bring them off to the side to attend to them. They would have emergency forts filled with medical supplies off to the sides (out of the battlefield) Betsy Ross once reported that "A bullet went whizzing by my ear. Another shot was sounded and the man i was tending to on the fightin' grounds got shot. Blood spattered my face and I quickly moved on.There was sumbody else i figgured I could help, nuttin more i could do for him now."
