The majority of the Australian ground units operated under the 1st Australian Task Force: 3 infantry battalions, 1 artillery battalion, 1 engineer battalion, 1 mechanized battalion, and 1 armor battalion (Centurion tanks).
Approximately 60,000 Australians served their country between 1962 and 1972, with a peak strength of a little over 7600 in country in the summer of 1969. All told the Australians lost 561 killed and about 3000 wounded in the longest war they ever fought, so far.
