Well before the Europeans invaded/landed on Australia in 1788, Australia was home to the Aboriginal people (although this is the name that Europeans gave to them). In their own language there is no one name for them. There were about 600 different tribes.

DNA testing has indicated that the first Australian Aborigines most likely originated from the Indian subcontinent.
