Traditionally soldiers are sent to their native country to be buried. However I do know that most of the American soldiers that fell in France are buried there.
This is unknown and Allah knows Best. May Allah forgive them and us.
There were no french in the civil war their are some in the revolution though.
Soldiers are people who put their lives on the life to help maintain America's freedom. The US honors every soldier because without them, the US may not be free.
Yes, from the American War Graves Commission.
Are you referring to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier? If so, it represents all of the soldiers who died in action that were not able to be identified. Because they don't know who they are, they can't contact family, but are still deserving of a burial with honors.AnswerThe US has four Unknown Soldiers; from World War 1, World War 2, Korea, and Vietnam. By the time it was decided to have an Unknown Solder from Vietnam, forensic science had progressed to the point that it was very difficult to find a dead US soldier who could not be identified, but one was finally found. Furthermore, it is now quite possible that the previous three Unknown Soldiers could be identified if the tomb was opened. As stated by the above answer, the Unknown Soldier represents US soldiers who were killed but not identifiable for traditional burial. If the question is asking about the exact identity of the Unknown Soldier, the word 'unknown' should be a clue.
There are many Tomb's of the Unknown. Obviously, the whole point is that the person buried in said Tomb was never able to be identified, which is why they are buried as a tribute to all who were unable to be identified. With new genetic matching techniques, it is today sometimes possible to tell whose remains are there, and it wasn't when they were buried.
There is a US Government website that allows you to look up any Veteran by name who is still buried in a foreign country: American Battlefield Monuments Commission. I don't think it has a list that you can scroll through. But you can enter a last name and search. Or you can enter a unit and search and it will pull up everyone in that unit. Remember---- some soldiers were immediately buried in Europe. But after the war ended, the US government offered to return the bodies if the family requested it. Some soldiers were re-buried in the US. Link: www.abmc.gov
Joint effort by all services, but generally falls to the US Army.
In world war 2 a lot of soldiers were burned, lost in action or found in pieces so they were unrecognizable to anybody since they didn't have DNA testing back then. So instead of putting them in different places they took all the unrecognizable soldiers and created a single tomb called the tomb of the unknown soldier because all the soldiers are unknown.
Presumably this is meant to be the 'Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.' The 'Tomb of the Unknown Soldier' is a symbolic representation of all the soldiers, who have fought in and after WW1, whose bodies (and thus identities) were never discovered.
