Federal law did not require serial numbers on rifles and shotguns until 1968. I believe your rifle was made in 1965, and never HAD a serial number. While it is HIGHLY illegal to remove or deface a serial number, owning a gun that never had one is perfectly legal.
Your 1965 rifle may never have had a serial number. Not required by Federal law on rifles and shotguns until 1968.
The serial number by itself doesn't identify a specific model.
What model is the rifle? different series for each model.
Identifies the model series.
By the serial number.
Serial number "26507" would be a Model 1893 versus a Model 1897. I suspect that you left one-digit out of the serial number. Bert H.
The Winchester model 64 was made from 1933-1957.There serial numbers were in the Winchester model 1894 series of numbers. The serial number that you have supplied shows a production year of 1927,which is to early for this model. Please check your serial number again,or your model number.
