Where would engine oil be coming from on a 1996 Dodge Neon that appears to be leaking Engine Oil by the flywheel has anybody else had this problem?

Probable rear main seal failure. You will have to remove the transmission to do the repair.

There is not an adjustment on a flywheel. Your problem will most likely be the starter.

I had the same problem was not the head gasker , check the distributor to eng mount area there is a seal or gasket there known for leaking. A little high temp rtv fixed the problem...Be sure not to loose the rotor index position when reinstalling.

Defective starter, or a problem with the flywheel. You need to check the starter and then remove it and check the flywheel.

when you have a clutch put in you also have to replace or remove the flywheel and have it refaced to keep from messing up the new clutch, and yes the flywheel is suspose to turn when the engine is turning, so if the flywheel wasnt replaced or refaced then i would say that the flywheel is what the problem is

check pickup coil inside the flywheel rt. side as sitting on it the pickup is on the outside of the flywheel but the problem is usually the stator inside the flywheel and is sold as a set.

There are 2 freeze plugs in the back of the engine block were the flywheel is, They may be leaking. But I would look at the back top corners of the intake manifold real close and run your fingers around the corners and see if you get antifreeze on them. The intake Gaskets are none to leak on Chevy V8 and V6 engines, It is a common problem.

Could be either a defective starter drive or a broken tooth on flywheel Try turn the engine manually (large socket on crankshaft) to see if it will start- if so problem is a broken tooth - if not problem is probably a bad starter drive. (make sure vehicle is in neutral if std.)
