I had the same problem with my 99 limited and the lock actuator need to be replaced
The lock actuator is in the rear door, the panel will need to be removed. When the panel is removed you will see the actuator bolted to the door frame. Not to hard to replace.
To fix a rear door hatch lock that doesn't release, first check the key fob battery and replace it if needed. If that doesn't work, inspect the lock actuator for any signs of damage or wear, and ensure the wiring is intact. Lubricate the lock mechanism with a silicone spray to reduce friction, and test the lock again. If the problem persists, consider consulting a mechanic as the actuator may need replacement.
