em what is a 1995 Laredo anyway
Listen at the hatch lid when open and you work the remote lock/unlock on your key ring. You should hear the noise of the locking motor working. It is located near the bottom of the hatch towards the drivers (left) side of the hatch. If you hear a noisy motor, you know the wiring etc is OK. Then your problem is probably a worn out motor or linkage. If all the passenger doors lock and unlock OK and if the hatch lock notor makes no noise when activated it may be a bad wiring connection or a bad motor. You'll have to take off the inner plastic cover from the hatch and check out the wiring/motor etc. If all the door locks and the hatch do not work then check the fuse for that circuit Hope this helps Dave S

If the rear hatch will not open on a 2000 Pontiac Montana, it could be that the door look is dirty and jammed. From the inside, spray the lock part with WD-40 or Liquid Wrench. A little Liquid Wrench around the perimeter of the door near the seal is also a good idea. The lock can be popped from the inside using a screwdriver if necessary.

If the key starts the car and you just need to program remote. I just bought a 2000 beetle and had this same problem. Just unlock the rear hatch and lift it up, then unlock driver door with key and push either lock or unlock and it will program the remote to lock, unlock, doors rear hatch and arm alarm

To replace lock cylinder in the hatch ,first inside hatch panel must be removed. After removing the panel you will have access to the lock cylinder. Remove the linkage to the cylinder and pull the retaining clip from the cylinder and the lock can be removed from the outside of the latch. This is not a hard job to do , 1 hour max if your slow .
My 2002 Tribute has the same problem, caused by central locking motor failure in the back hatch.
