Eastern Cape, KwaZulu Natal, Northern Cape and Northern Cape Province
South Africa is divided into 9 Provinces. They are Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, Western Cape and Northern Cape.
The country was called 'The Union of SA' in 1910 by the British, after they combined 4 smaller 'colonies' and republics, which then became the four provinces of South Africa. It then became 'The Republic of South Africa' on 31st May 1961 after a referendum asking the people if they wanted to be free of Britain, the answer was yes! So..... you can say the country has been called South Africa for 97 years!
South Africa operated under a minority ruled Apartheid state until the system ended in 1994. The country had a hierarchy that was race dependent with whites at the top, Colored and Asians were below them, and the black majority population was at the bottom. Every detail within the system was aimed at keeping the races separate.
South Africa is GMT+2 hours. Therefor, if it is 4 pm in Dublin, it would be 6 pm in South Africa.
