Historically, many European nations had colonies in Africa. However, Europe never "owned" the continent.
The Pacific Ocean is not owned by any person or nation. Several nations have territory within the Pacific Ocean, but the majority of it is not "owned".
Many settled in modern-day South Africa, Angola, Namibia, Madagascar, Botswana, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zambia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana and Senegal. These nations still retain considerable white populations.

The colonies owned by European powers produced cotton, materials for textiles, vegetables, clothing, tobacco and gold and silver. Their colonies were often in tropical or semi tropical climates and thus offered a variety of "planting" seasons. Also, the soil in the colonies were relatively fresh compared to the crop fields in Europe.
During the imperialistic era of European colonization, their over seas colonies that had plantations became important. Nations such as Great Britain, France, Spain, Portugal and even Belgium owned colonies that had tropical or semi tropical climates that were useful for growing needed crops for the Europeans. The products grown in these colonies such as cotton were grown on large plantations fielded with low paid farmers. This arrangement was a cheap source of products for the colonial nations and thus became very important.
They limited economic opportunities by preventing Africans from growing crops outside of white-owned farms.

First Nations perspectives often centered around a deep spiritual connection to the land, viewing it as a communal resource to be respected and protected, rather than owned. In contrast, European perspectives typically emphasized land as a commodity to be owned, cultivated, and exploited for economic gain. These differing views led to significant misunderstandings and conflicts, particularly regarding land use and ownership. Ultimately, these contrasting worldviews shaped the relationships between First Nations and European settlers, influencing social, cultural, and political dynamics.
Any country that was occupied by Hitler had to fight for him. They no longer had a nation once he occupied them. He owned them. Or the Third Reich owned and controlled them.
Oceans are not owned by nations, so technically, there is no ocean that is New Zealand's. Aotearoa is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean (Moana Nui A Kiwa). The Tasman sea which lies between Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand is an arm of the Pacific Ocean
