He was actually a titan, Kronos had a prophecy that one of his children would overrule him someday so whenever he had a child he would eat it. But when Zeus was born his wife tricked him into eating a rock and then Zeus made a mixture that would make him fall asleep. When Kronos was asleep, Zeus sliced him open, saved his siblings and cut up Kronos and threw him into Tartarus.
