For business strikes, 1964 are 90% silver, 1965-1970 are 40% silver.
All circulation half dollars dated 1971 and later are only worth 50 cents. They're made of copper-nickel and do not contain any silver.
50 cents. They are not silver and are in common circulation.
There's no such coin. JFK is on the half dollar.
JFK
All half dollars dated 1971 and later are made of copper-nickel, not silver, and are worth exactly face value - 50 cents.
Please check your coin again post a new, separate question.First, no silver dollars were minted after 1935. Most likely your coin is a HALF dollar; you did check the denomination on the back- ?Second, it's either not JFK or not 1963. All 1963 half dollars carry a picture of Benjamin Franklin. JFK's picture wasn't put on the half until 1964 following his death.
Sorry, no such coin as a "Kennedy silver dollar", JFK only appears on the Half dollars from 1964 to date. Look at the coin again and post new question.
All Half-Dollars from 1964 to date have JFK on them. Your coins are nothing special, just spend them. Most coins dated 1964 and earlier contain silver, which is worth about $31 per ounce. So collect a bunch of silver coins, then take them to a coin dealer, you should get about 10 to 1 exchange. For example a half dollar is worth $5 for the silver content.
Kennedy half dollar coins dated 1965 through 1970 weigh 11.5 grams and are 40% silver - they thus contain 0.1479 troy ounces of silver.
Uh, JFK has been on the half dollar since 1964 and President Eisenhower was on dollars struck from 1971 to 1978. In either case your coins are cupro-nickel issues worth face value only.
Yes, there is a John F. Kennedy silver half dollar but not a quarter. Kennedy half dollars were minted in 90% silver in 1964, and 40% silver from 1965 to 1970. Silver quarters were last minted in 1964 before switching to a copper-nickel composition.
Value is for the silver about $2.50
