If you are asking about the boroughs of New York City, then only one is on the mainland: the Bronx. Manhattan and Staten Island are separate islands; Brooklyn and Queens are political divisions of the large island-formation known as Long Island. New York City is situated on three islands: Manhattan Island, Staten Island and Long Island.

The five boroughs of New York City are Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island.

Manhattan and Staten Island are each islands, and Brooklyn and Queens are part of the island known as Long Island. The remainder of Long Island, while part of New York State, is not part of New York City.

The Bronx is the only New York City borough that is not an island or part of an island, but is attached to the mainland of New York State.

Four of New York City's five boroughs are either islands or part of an island. The borough of Manhattan and the borough of Staten Island are each islands, and the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens are on Long Island.

The Bronx is the only New York City borough that is not an island, or part of an island. It is located on the mainland of New York State.
