Queens Boulevard is nicknamed the Boulevard of Death (or the Boulevard of Broken Bones) because of the extremely high number of pedestrian injuries and deaths.
However, due to new safety implements, such as longer green lights for pedestrians and grim signs erected at accident sites, which proclaim, "A pedestrian died crossing here," the number of injuries and deaths has decreased substantially.
