We cannot said that the two or more computers are connected on the network can communicate, if two or more computers wants to talk each other on the network, need a protocol, without protocol they can't able to communicate.
it is a software protocol for instant acces and easy sharing from files from anywhere in the world. for example files on a nas in a private network with mionet can be accesed from any location in the world, if the owner wants too.
The network protocol that uses port 21 is FTP (File Transfer Protocol). FTP is commonly used for transferring files between a client and a server on a computer network. Port 21 is specifically designated for FTP control connections. When a user initiates an FTP connection, the client connects to the server's port 21 to establish communication for sending and receiving files. It is important to note that FTP operates in two modes: active mode and passive mode, each using different ports for data transfer.
The TCP/IP protocol allows each computer to "see" the other computers on the network, and share files and printers. When computers connect on the same network, it is called a local area network, or LAN .
SFTP is a network protocol that gives access to files, transfer of files, and the management function of files over reliable streams of data. SSH File Transfer Protocol was designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force as an extension of the Secure Shell protocol version 2.0 to give files a secure transfer capability.
A network operating system (NOS) implements protocol stacks as well as device drivers for networking hardware. This software controls a network, it's message traffic, controls access by multiple users to network resources such as files, printers, scanners, and cameras. Online Computer Support

The File Transfer Protocol is a standard network protocol used for the transfer of computer files from a server to a client on a computer network. FTP is built on a client-server model architecture using separate control and data connections between the client and the server
