If you are referring to THE "Great Migration" of African Americans who migrated from the Southern States to the Northern States, during the early 1900's it was because of the technological advances in manufacturing. Industries such as automobile manufacturing, steel industies, the railroad, and shipbuilding offered steady jobs. After the Great Depression of the 1930's there was another migration toward the western states, where computer technology was gaining prominence.
