The Germans had no specific targets beyond the city itself. They bombed at night and the city, the entire country on fact, were completely blacked out, so specific target location was impossible. The Germans used a radio direction system which was a forerunner of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) in use at all airports today. Two widely separated radio transmitters broadcast a beam directly over London, one sending dashes, the other sending dots. When these two merged into a solid tone in the pilot's earphones he knew he was over London. Otherwise below everything was just a black, inky void. The Germans reasoned they might hit a factory or a military installation, they might hit homes of workers and kill them and cripple British war production that way, they might destroy the British will to continue the fight.

I don't have the exact locations of the bombed areas of London. I do know where you can see a list of important places that were bombed in London. See the related link below. There were over 30,000 people affected by the bombings, including King George and his family. The

Buckingham Palace was hit in one part of it but the family was not seriously hurt. There were a lot of other important sites hit. I went back and added an RAF London Museum site for you so you can contact the historians there for a list of areas.

Why is Hitler not invade England?

The German operation to invade Britain was called "Umnternehen Seelöwe" (operation Sealion). Germany attacked England by bombing airfields at first in an attempt to gain air superiority in order to be able to invade. This battle was called the Battle of Britain. Britain was able to win the Battle of Britain when the German luftwaffe changed its bombing tactics and started targeting cities more than RAF bases. This gave the RAF enough time to prepare to attack the luftwaffe bombers and fighter escorts. It was during these bombing runs that the spitfire was able to prove itself superior to the German Messerschmidt fighters as it could fly at a higher celling. The creation of RADAR also benefited the British as they were able to find out the numbers, speed and direction of the German squadrons. After Hitler was unable to get air superiority the invasion of Britain would be difficult if not impossible.

Did Germans bomb England during World War II?

No.................. __________________________________ If you mean starting from the second world war. Germany started bombing the British airfields and ports, but that was really it; very few lives were lost. As part of the British tactic they bombed Berlin. In his fury, Hitler ordered all bombing attention to London and other Major cities. There is a theory that if Hitler kept bombing the airfields he might have won. Alternative answer: Britain first bombed Germany in May 1940 (a few days after France had done so). Britain had bombed German ports (purely military targets) in September 1939. Germany didn't bomb Britain until August 1940 (against airfields as noted above) and switched to bombing cities on September 4. The first official raid was 7 Sep.
