Which best explains the existence of humans - the Bible or science?

Hands down science explains the evolution, ergo existence of hominids. The Bible explains the creation of humans by a god. It's easier to just say god did it rather than looking at the solid evidence science gives us.

Believers in Evolution will, of course, claim that secular science is the way to explain our existence. However, most people who accept evolution have never actually looked into the matter. Those who investigate thoroughly may find that Evolution, which in fact remains a theory, is fraught with difficulties and open to dispute by people who choose to avoid ignoring its problems. It can neither be proven nor demonstrated in the lab (in its broader sense of giving rise to new organs or species). Rather, God's creation is the simplest explanation for our existence and is the only explanation that has an unaltered tradition.For more:

If the 'best' explanation is the one that provides emotional comfort or the conviction that we, as humans, are in some way better than the rest of creation, then the Bible should be preferred, even if it is not literally true.

The Bible tells of creation in terms that are almost irresistible. So much so that when two different creation stories emerged from two different sources, they had to both be included in the book of Genesis (at verses 1:1-2:4a and 2:4b-25) in spite of their differences. Leon R. Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis) says that the second creation story departs from the first not only in content but also in tone, mood and orientation, and the two stories, which had two different authors, are entirely unrelated. It is therefore the job of the theologian to maintain the pretext that there is only one creation story in Genesis, in order that people will believe.

Science deals with reality. One reality is that the earth came into existence long after the sun and stars. Religion deals with what primitive people could imagine to be true, and so Genesis 1: 14-18 says that the sun, moon and stars were created after the earth already existed.

Science provides compelling evidence that humans evolved from earlier hominids, with our immediate ancestral species being Homo erectus, a pre-human species of which much is now known. Scientists also know that we were not the only descendants of Homo erectus, because the Neanderthal man co-existed with modern humans (Homo sapiens) in Europe until tens of thousands of years ago, as demonstrated by hundreds of the remains so far found. This is not speculation, nor is it mere faith - it is demonstrable fact. Knowledge of our past and of how we evolved is taught in high schools, although some creationists will do whatever they can to keep our children ignorant of the science.
