No exercise gets ride of fat in any specific area anymore than any other exercise. You perform work, your body needs energy, and will burn fat wherever that fat might happen to be. So if you have a flabby chest, you more than likely have a flabby body. Drop your total body fat, and the chest fat will go too. Any cardiovascular exercise that elevates your heart rate to 50-80% of it's maximum will do the trick. The American Heart Association recommends 60-90 minutes of cardiovascular exercise a day, essentially everyday for those trying to lose weight. Timothy is right. You cannot target an area where you want to burn fat. But SOMETIMES you can target an area that you want to firm up. If you abdominal muscles are weak, you will hang out a little more. Situps can firm the muscles and help you look better. You won't necessarily loose any weight but the stronger muscles will pull in your abs. Weight loss and muscle mass go together.Calories areburned in the muscles. Fat doesn't mysteriously disappear when you eat less, the calories must be burned and you do that in the muscles. THAT'S THE ONLY PLACE SUCH A CONVERSION TAKES PLACE! You can increase the rate at which muscle burns the fat in two ways: 1. make the muscles work more... in other words exercise. 2. make the muscles stronger/larger... in other words, get fit. If your muscles are burning more calories than you're eating you loose weight. If you're eating more calories than your muscles can burn, you gain weight. It isn't magic, in fact it isn't even very complex.
