Genetically, the contributions of the two parents are almost identical.
Both the sperm and the ovum contribute the same amount of genetic information on nuclear chromosomes. They each contribute a haploid number of chromosomes (i.e. one set of 23 chromosomes).
However, a few genes (37) are carried on the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), of which there are hundreds of copies in a typical cell. All the baby's mtDNA comes from Mum; Dad supplies only nuclear DNA. So the mother contributes a few more genes to the child than the father does.
The sperm cell decides the sex of the baby.
The combining of an egg and sperm to create 1 single cell is "conception."
Generally, one sperm cell and one egg cell unite for each offpring that is created (some cases, such as monozygotic/idential twins, are different). This means that if a human has one baby, it was one sperm and one egg. Or if a dog has 5 puppies, it was 5 egg cells and 5 sperm cells that united.
There's no such thing. The sperm cell comes from a boy. Ovum is another word for egg cell which is in a girl. When a sperm cell finds an "ovum" it fertilizes it and it travels to the uterus to develop eventually into a baby.
The process when an egg cell and a sperm cell COMBINE is called Fertilization
FERTILIZATION
they are sort of the same as a sperm cell but the egg cell forms into a baby
A single cell
no. it should be 2 cells. the egg cell and the sperm cell
well cell forms zygote when an egg and sperm joins and with the passage of time it got a mature baby
to get fertilized by sperm and turn into a baby
The combining of an egg and sperm to create 1 single cell is "conception."
One sperm burrows into the egg and starts the process of cell division that becomes a baby. That is what it does, I'm not sure anyone can really tell you how it happens.
cell division, after it caused the egg and sperm to fertilized
The sperm cell determines the gender of a human baby. Ova only have X sex chromosomes, but sperm cells can have either an X or a Y sex chromosome. If an X sperm fertilizes an egg, the offspring will be XX and be female. If a Y sperm fertilizes an egg, the offspring will be XY and be male.
When sperm reach an egg, there is a competition to get into the egg first. Since sperm travel in groups, theres a lot of competition. Once a sperm has penetrated the membrane, the membrane hardens, blocking the rest of the sperm out. Once inside, the sperm releases its genetic material, and the egg cell divides, and will continue so until a new baby is born.
An egg is fertilized when the sperm call has combined with the egg to form a zygote,a single cell combining the characteristics of both the sperm and the egg.
The function of the sperm cell is to fertilize an egg cell.
