A typical neuron consists of a cell body (soma), dendrites, and an axon.
The cell body, called the SOMA, is the main part of the neuron. It is the main metabolic center or region of the neuron. The neuron has 3 parts: DENDRITES (inputs), SOMA (cell body), and AXON (output). The axon is the part which FIRES when sufficient inputs reach it at the axon hillock.
It is heat transfer by the collision of atoms within our atmosphere.

I left out dendrites, because there are some kinds of neurons (sensory neurons) which don't have dendrites, but rather have axons which come from a sense receptor cell, come to but do not enter the soma, where the impulse continues onalong a second branch of the axon stub which comes out from the soma. In other words, a single axon (or perhaps a fused axon and dendrite?) comes out from the soma, where it branches into two, one of which goes to the receptor cell to receive an impulse (and is myelinated and conducts an action potential), and the other goes to the spinal cord or brain.

The nerve cell hillock is the beginning of the axon immediately after the soma. This is where the action potential originates.
