Both civilizations emerged around river valleys (Nile in Egypt, Tigris and Euphrates in Fertile Crescent) and relied on agriculture for their economies. They also developed complex social and political systems, built monumental architecture, and engaged in trade and cultural exchange with neighboring regions.
