San Diego / Los Angeles (Southern California.
Only place you can surf and snowboard in the same day.
Big Bear (Bear Lake / Bear Mountain) California is a mountain region only 1 hour drive from LA; and about 3 hours from San Diego.
It has snow from December to April/May and several decent (not fabulous) Snowboarding parks (skiiers welcome also). Great for one or two day getaways - keeping your skills honed; or just beginning.
And back on the beach - it's a semi-chilly 65 degrees... oh yeah...
