Thomas Jonathan Jackson
Stonewall Jackson, Union military leader during the Civil War. General Jackson's nickname is attributed to a moment at First Bull Run during which General Bee is reputed to have shouted, "There is Jackson standing like a stone wall. Let us determine to die here, and we will conquer. Follow me", or words to that effect.
It was the nickname of Confederate General Thomas Jackson. He earned his nickname originally either as a reproof, when - instead of coming quickly to the aid of another army group under pressure - he was noticed by General Bee to just stay where he was 'like a stone wall'; or, as others have it, by bravely resisting an assault at the head of the Virginian "Stonewall" brigade.
He was a tough and stone general, during the Civil War.

He wasn't. The nickname Stonewall was given to Thomas J. Jackson, a Confederate general of the Civil War. When other Confederate units were retreating or being overrun by a Union assault, jackson's unit held firm, and they were compared to a stone wall.

Thomas Jackson became known as Stonewall during the First Battle of Bull Run, or First Manassas, on July 21, 1861. Brigadier General Barnard Bee angrily commented on Jackson's failure to promptly come relieve his troops by comparing him to a stone wall.
Thomas Jonathon Jackson was accidentally shot by his own troops. However, he was not know for his lightning attacks so much as his stout defense. During the First Battle of Bull Run another general exclaimed "There stands Jackson like a stone wall" as his Brigade was under heavy attack by Union Troops and he successfully defended his position. That day he earned his nickname "Stonewall" Jackson.
He earned his famous nickname at the first battle of Bull Run when Confederate general Barnard Bee's said: "Look, men, there is Jackson standing like a stone wall!"
Stone Wall Jackson's real name was Thomas Johnathon Jackson. He was a famous Lieutenant General in the Confederate army during the Civil War.
