Africa is a vast continenent with many different climate areas. Temperate, sub-tropical, equatorial, open grass land, desert and rain forest.
All deserts have a dry climate.
Climate: The Kalahari desert has vast areas covered by red sand without any permanent surface water. Parts of the Kalahari receive over 250mm of erratic rainfall annually and are quite well vegetaed; it is only truly arid in the southwest (under 175mm of rain annually) making the Kalahari a fossil desert.

Cold and dry areas
The climate of the Atacama is cool and very dry in most areas. It would be classified as a cool, dry desert climate.

The vast, cold, dry region of eastern Russia is referred to as Siberia. It is known for its harsh climate, expansive forests, and valuable natural resources.
Sand dunes are found in many deserts, as well as in some less arid areas of the world.
A very dry climate with little or no rain or snow is called a desert climate. These areas typically have low precipitation levels and high temperatures, resulting in arid conditions.
