Coins that might sell for $1 or $2 in circulated condition might sell for more than $50 if uncirculated and all US gold coins are worth over $50 because of their gold content no matter what the grade and some coins are worth over $50 even in poor condition so long as the date and mintmark can be identified such as the 1916-D Mercury dime

1885 isn't a rare date but it is a highly collectable coin in high grade. In low grade the coin would sell for a dollar or two, if circulated but in decent shape it could be worth 3-4 dollars. But if in brilliant uncirculated the coin can be worth a hundred or more dollars.
