I am checking in Word 2010; I expect this to be similar in Word 2013. There is a "File | Close" command; you can also use the Alt-F4 or Ctrl-F4 keyboard shortcuts.

The difference between application-centric approach and document-centric approach is that with application-centric approach you open an application (such as notepad) and then create a document. With document-centric approach you create a document without opening an application first. You can create a document from the desktop by right clicking on the desktop, then click on New. On the submenu click on text document (or whichever command you choose).

Google Docs has an automatic save function. There is no need to manually save.
Instead of selecting 'Save". Select 'Save as" and enter a different save destination.
If it's in MS Word and you're editing a list but want to add line-breaks without causing it to move to the next list-item, then simply hold down the SHIFT key while hitting ENTER. It will make a line break without exiting out of the current list item.
