UNIVAC, when it was shown on TV in 1952 correctly predicting Eisenhower's election as president. And incase anyone missed it on TV, the next day both radio news and newspapers practically everywhere in the US reported it! Though practically nobody knew what "a UNIVAC" was and only a few had heard of "computers" before (and then only as a job title for a person employed to work on a mechanical desk calculator all day), the UNIVAC computer was being discussed in almost every household at the time.
