The oldest fossils of early hominids have been found in Africa.
(most common place for hominids to live in the Paleolithic. Mesolithic, and Neolithic Stone Age periods)
The Gauteng (aka Cradle of Human-kind) province has findings of most of the findings in the world. Sterkfontein, a series of limestone caves in Africa, is the area where more than 1/3 of the oldest hominid fossils were discovered.
Also in 2001, a group of French people found what they believe to be the remains of the earliest human, Toumai, aged around 7 million years old, in the Chadian Desert of Africa. The debate surrounding this had yet to be resolved.
Stromatolites are the oldest fossils found. They are ancient bacteria that still live today in western Australia. Time magazine just published a blurb about the oldest colony found yet: 39 billion years old, if I remember correctly.

Yes. From the time of the earliest European settlement, the Tasmanian Tiger, or Thylacine, was only known on the Australian island of Tasmania. However, fossil evidence and Aboriginal paintings indicate the Thylacine was once widespread throughout the Australian continent and the island of New Guinea.
Based on fossil evidence, the earliest "true cats", appeared in Europe about 30 million years ago. The species name of that cat is Proailurus.
The most likely continent for first occupation by humans is Africa, specifically the northwest corner of the African continent. This is the scientific answer, well supported by fossil evidence. Humans, very much like today's people, seem to have existed there up to 1.5 million years ago. Somewhere around 150,000 years ago they seem to have migrated beyond Africa into the middle east, India, and China. The last continent (not counting Antarctica) to be occupied was South America.
