North America has fifty states. To be more specific, the United States of America, is the country that has fifty states. North America is the continent. (The three biggest countries in North America are Canada, U.S.A, and Mexico. There are many small islands, and other small countries when getting closer to South America.)
The west coasts of both continents are by far the more active areas, due to subduction along both continents. Which is why the Andes chain of mountains and the Sierra Nevada and the Rocky Mountains, as well as the Cascades, are so high compared to any mountains along the eastern seaboard of either continent.
The people living in North America could weigh thousands of thousands of tonnes. The land form could weigh much more but there is no way to weigh an entire continent.
